How to use the DPI Converter
Convert image pixels to intended print inches and centimeters at a chosen PPI, or calculate required pixels from print dimensions.
- Enter real measurements or prices in the interactive tool.
- Check unit labels and customize any applicable fees, waste allowances or product-specific rates.
- Review the result, formulas and limitations before using it in purchasing, pricing or production decisions.
DPI Converter: formula & methodology
Printed width (inches) = image width (pixels) ÷ PPI. Required pixels = desired printed inches × PPI.
The tool uses your entered values and explicitly labeled assumptions. Final results may be rounded for display, while intermediate arithmetic retains available numeric precision. Verify material, tax, device or platform specifications relevant to your situation.
Worked example
A 2400 × 3000 pixel image at 300 PPI has a nominal print size of 8 × 10 inches.
Try the example above and then change values to reflect your own project or comparison.
Frequently asked questions
Is DPI the same as PPI?
Not exactly. Pixels per inch describes image pixel density; printer dots per inch can refer to the output printer technology.
Does this actually resize my image?
No. It estimates intended print size or required pixels. It does not change image pixels, metadata or produce a new image.
Is 300 PPI always required?
No. Appropriate pixel density depends on printer requirements and viewing distance.
