CSS Clamp Generator — Fluid Type, Simplified.
Generate responsive CSS clamp() typography with fluid scaling between mobile and desktop viewport ranges.
This interactive CSS Clamp Generator workspace requires JavaScript. How-to instructions, methodology and FAQs are available below.
How to use CSS Clamp Generator
Generate responsive CSS clamp() typography with fluid scaling between mobile and desktop viewport ranges.
- Enter minimum and maximum type sizes in pixels, viewport breakpoints in pixels and an assumed root font size.
- Generate a CSS declaration including the clamp minimum, interpolated preferred value and maximum.
- Open Bulk mode for several comma-separated size configurations and export a CSV of rules.
Worked example
Use min=16px, max=40px, viewport 360–1440px and root size=16px to generate one clamp() rule for a fluid heading.
How the tool works and its limitations
Between the chosen viewport widths, the slope is (maxSize−minSize)/(maxViewport−minViewport). The result uses a CSS vw term plus a rem intercept, clamped by minimum and maximum rem values. Browser zoom and the visitor’s own font settings affect the final rendering.
Frequently asked questions
Does clamp support responsive typography?
Yes. It gives CSS a fluid intermediate value bounded by explicit min and max sizes.
Can min and max be the same?
Yes. A zero slope becomes a fixed size within clamp().
Will the formula use the visitor’s font size?
rem units follow the actual root font size, so pixel-equivalent rendering can differ from the design assumption.
